TAXES are TAXES are TAXES

To the Taxpayers of Hopkinton;

I want to first state that I have much respect for the elected and appointed officials of this town, and for the town employees who work so hard to the benefit of us all. This letter concerns the Board of Selectmen's meeting on 02/05/07 . David White of the Transportation Advisory Council gave an update concerning a scenic corridor which runs through town. I believe I heard that there may be funds available to make improvements to this route. It was suggested that the town should submit a proposal, to take advantage of these funds, even if it means that town money would be needed to fund a portion of the project, or to guarantee any overrun in the estimated cost by the time the project might be completed. Perhaps serious review and deliberation had already gone into the NEED for the project, and I was not present for this discussion. I do not feel that we should be considering ANY new projects with our limited resources. We need to seriously test all expenses to determine the return to the community.

TAXES are TAXES are TAXES. It doesn't matter whether funding is from local, state, or federal government! The source of all taxes is the same – YOUR POCKETBOOK and MINE. Let us work together to make sure that our tax dollars yield the best possible return. Let us not spend money just because it is available.
